The Visa Officer

High Commission of Canada

Sub: Application in response to study permit refused on January 13, 2022 (K438694830)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I extend my gratitude to the Visa High Commission for allowing me another chance to present my case, reference to application no K438694830. With the rapid technological advances and introduction of IoT, informational technology has gone deeper into the roots of society. Over time, I have learned about the significance of developing secure systems enabling end-to-end encryption. Likewise, my interest shifted more towards ensuring security in the technology business. During my tenure, I have developed a keen desire to become a valuable part of the cyber security team. However, to aspire to this role, I require formal training. Therefore, I have planned to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Cyber Security for which I have also received a Letter of Offer from Sault College. Unfortunately, my study permit was refused on the following grounds:

  • The purpose of your visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the details you have provided in your application.
  • Your proposed studies are not reasonable in light of one or more of: your qualifications, previous studies, missing mark sheets, academic record, level of establishment/available financial resources, language abilities, or your future prospects and plans

I, therefore, take this opportunity to provide valid reasoning in favor of my candidature as a genuine temporary student entrant in Canada.

Purpose of Visit

Through studying in Canada, I intend to acquire formal training in expanding my prospects in cyber security management. Besides, possessing decent experience in the field of Information Technology, I understand how crucial it is for me to fill the existing knowledge gaps in this branch of study. Equipping myself with the latest tools and information will help me get an edge over others and reserve better career opportunities back home. Honing a technical qualification is critical to benefit incidence response, cloud security, network management, and cryptography. After studying in Canada, I will garner international exposure, that is limited in my country. The course in cyber security will introduce me to a plethora of opportunities by advancing my knowledge and allowing me to train under guided supervision. Therefore, I believe that pursuing higher studies in Canada will bring many laurels to my professional profile.

Academic and professional background

I passed secondary school with a CGPA of 9.1 and got inspired to pursue the science stream. Unfortunately, in the beginning, I found it a bit difficult to adjust to the core science subjects which impacted my grades and instead of aiming for distinction, I gained only 63% in my secondary school examination. As keen as I have always been to make a career in IT, I chose to pursue a Bachelor of Computer Science & Engineering as a part of my graduate studies. However, here too I found a new challenge as I was a keen sports enthusiast, I also began practicing alongside my studies as a newbie college fresher. As the graduate curriculum was vast and my interest was drawing more toward sports, I couldn’t create a reasonable balance and my grades suffered. Also, due to death of my father, I was shattered and couldn’t think clearly. It was a total disaster during that period. Also, my backlog which was expected to be completed in 2017 was postponed to 2019 by the administration which resulted in a delay in obtaining the graduation cap. However, with my hard work and sincerity towards my career, I passed graduation with a decent GPA of 6.2.

As thirsty as I was to obtain professional exposure, I interned at Redblue Technologies as a Data Science Intern in 2019. Here I grasped the concept of understanding deep learning techniques, cloud deployment,  review interpretation, and impactful sentiment analysis. Soon after the fulfillment of my graduate degree, I began my career as a Data Analyst at GHCT pvt. limited where I worked exclusively in extracting, cleaning, and analyzing large datasets. Moreover, I enhanced my scope of learning to sales growth and analyzing trends and patterns. Looking at my performance, they promoted me to Marketing Data Analyst and I worked in this position from 2019 to 2020.

Why Canada and not India?

In my pursuit to attain higher education, I focused all my attention on gaining international exposure and studying a comprehensive curriculum in cyber security. As I began my research about the top education destinations around the world, I gave considerable attention to English-speaking countries like the UK, U.S.A, Australia, and Canada. However, as I speculated further, I found Canada to be checking all the boxes for me, with respect to the affordable cost of education, top-notch pedagogy, international exposure, peace and harmony, safety and security, and health facilities. Talking about Canada’s attention to embracing a pragmatic approach in delivering lessons is second to none. Through studying in Canada, I will garner a rich study experience which is my first and foremost preference. However, the same is limited in my country due to having a theoretically inclined study system while in Canada, the education system is more pragmatic. Besides, studying in Canada will allow me to obtain a globally recognized qualification as well as a superior international exposure which is deemed worthy in my country.

Why Sault College?

As I finalized, to study in Canada, I started to browse through various curriculums in cyber security available at different colleges. I spent day and night trying to find the one that perfectly aligned with my future goals until I stumbled upon the one offered by Sault College. I found this course to be fulfilling all the study expectations that I outlined for myself. This program includes topics like Windows Server and Active Directory Administration, IT Security: Ethical and Legal Issues, Cisco Technologies (CCNA), Linux Administration, Ethical Hacking, and IT Security Forensics that interest me the most. Moreover, the capstone project makes this program even more beneficial as it will allow me to apply my skills in real time. Hence, I consider Sault College to be the most perfect match for me. Additionally, having studied about its influential faculty, unparalleled infrastructure, and multifaceted student base invigorates my desire to begin my program at the earliest in this college.

Future plans

With all the massive digital revolution in the past decade, data breaches, cyber-attacks, ransomware, and digital threats have become more concerning. As per the metrics from research reports, APAC alone is facing a surprising shortage of about 2.15 million cybersecurity professionals. Despite having the largest global IT talent pool, India lacks skilled cybersecurity specialists, as depicted through the NASSCOM report. It points towards a resurfacing problem of manpower crunch in this domain in our country. India, being the home of some top-notch IT giants like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Larsen & Toubro Infotech Ltd, Hexaware Technologies Ltd, HCL Technologies, and more, opens doors of opportunity for cyber security professionals. Upon the completion of my course, I will seek opportunities to serve in these companies and grow myself in IT security defense, response, and ethical hacking in the short run. I would preferably seek opportunities to serve in these companies and grow myself in roles such as a Cyber Security Engineer, Cybersecurity Analyst, Security Architect, Security Auditor, etc immediately after concluding my study program. However, in the upcoming future, I aim to establish an independent firm delivering services in  Artificial Intelligence and cybersecurity. Through this I aim to offer revolutionary services and generate revenue for the Indian IT market.

Family ties in India

I belong to a family of three members including my mother, younger sister, and me. My father was part of a family-run business and acted as CEO before his passing away. Since childhood, I have lived with my family so, I was quite close to my father and have immense love and respect for my mother. After my father passed away, my mother stepped up and took care of business as well as our home. Being the eldest child of my family and man of the family, I have my duties toward my mom and sister. Therefore, I aim to return to my country as soon as I complete my studies in Canada. Moreover, my family possesses ancestral property and various other family assets that I will inherit in the future. My sister is still in college. However, I will have to find her a suitable groom as per our culture. Hence, I need to return to my hometown to shoulder all these responsibilities. With this, I declare that I do not have any family ties and, I must be accepted as the most fitting genuine temporary student entrant in Canada.
