The ethos has always been the same, to protect the environment and make it pollution-free for posterity. However, the true traits have been different. The relentless consumerism, and urbanization done at the cost of cutting down trees bothers me. As someone born and brought up in India, I find that numerous resources are wasted. Although my country is a hub for producing wonderful items that are popular worldwide, I feel the need to pause and rethink.

I developed this thought process ever since I started to move to other countries. The amount of pollution is way less in Ireland as I lived in Ireland for five years, while I completed the last five years of school from there. I intend to make this thought process common for all people worldwide so we can save our planet.

Recently, when I started working as an Officer at Steppingstone Construction Co., Ltd, Mumbai in July 2023, I realized that some research and site visits can mitigate pollution and save the environment. This is what brings me to pursue an MS in Pollution and Environmental Control from the University of Illinois, USA. Upon completion of the course, I will have solid fundamentals which I will be able to apply and reduce the impact of factory waste on nature.

Having worked for some time, my practical knowledge is strong. Moreover, I have worked in NGOs and have attained many lessons about how nature supplements balance our lives.  I have also worked as an environmental-related consultant. In this position, I have proffered a sense of consciousness among the people I worked with about the steps they take and how each one impacts the environment.  I have also taught and preached the importance of carbon prints that we as humans leave and how we can alleviate this.

Out of my interest, I have also attended an environmental organization where I learned how planting trees is a great help in enhancing the air quality and making the environment clean. I have also participated in picking up plastic on the beach, to showcase that a clean beach appears more alluring than a dirty one. I have been able to inspire a few fellows from the peer group to join us for this initiative and I hope to see many others joining in.

It will be a pleasure to continue my passion at St. Mary’s University in Illinois. Pollution and Environmental Control is one of the longest-established and running departments at the University. It was ranked among the top 10 departments for research and was ranked third for good research work. It will be a pleasure to be a part of like-minded individuals and learn from their experiences.

From the course, I wish to gain skills that can help me provide solutions to environmental problems. I want to learn quantitative and qualitative skills that the university teaches to its students targeting environmental concerns and their resolutions.  With an engineering background, this would be interdisciplinary learning that will catalyze my solution-finding process. The research work provided at the University will be an addendum, complementing my previous experience as a consultant.

I am thus, looking forward to being a part of your esteemed university and fulfilling my aim to save the earth for future generations.
