Below is the Sample SOP for MS in Computer Science in UK
With an intent to become an engineer, I took up Computer Science in the eleventh grade. This choice of subject was apt as it soon consummated into a passion, stamping my academic goals of first completing my Bachelor’s in Computer Science and then pursuing it to the next level by undertaking an MS course in Computer Science. However, after completing my bachelor’s, I was offered wonderful employment opportunities that would back me up financially, too. Therefore, now after securing knowledge in the Computer Science realm and having my finances in shape, I am ready to embark on an MS course in Computer Science after 5 years of my professional tenure working as a professional. It is time that I move forward to manifest my academic aim of pursuing an MS in Computer Science.
Having started my professional journey in 2010 as a Software Engineer at Rustom Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., I worked here as a Frontend and Mobile Developer. I obtained experience in the health sector, and with the confluence of Computer Science, it has become better in terms of fast reporting, and help from the hospitals and doctors. In two years, until May 2012, I acquired a lot of information and then moved to work with Giselle Information Services. This domain was customer-centric and was related to property management. It was amazing to see the significance of Computer Science in this field, too.
Later, in January 2014 Janaury I joined Krishna Enterprises as a Senior Software Engineer. It was great learning to work towards devising scalable web and mobile products. While working on a project for `Yasir Global Trust`, Dubai, my team and I faced Internet calling issues in the app. While debugging, I came across the issue in the library itself that we were using in our app. I debugged the library and fixed the issue in the library and became one of the contributors of the app. While working on the issue, I was clueless, and neither my team member was able to help me, but later, I came up with a solution and fixed the problem. I want to enhance this ability through the MS program.
Working in this core field, I got a chance to work on multiple technologies like Ruby, Ember.js, React.js, Vanilla JavaScript, etc. Most of these technologies I have learned in a very short period, as per the requirements of the projects. It was enthralling to apply this learning successfully and see the final product. Currently, I am working as a Software Development Engineer at Ushers Pvt. Ltd., where I joined in March 2019. With the remote working setting in, I am involved in finding solutions to manage properties remotely. From working on multiple NodeJS microservices, I am currently involved in upgrading the codebase from JavaScript to TypeScript.
Other than my professional ventures, I have been involved in working as an Elixir Developer freelancer, along with working at Select Hub, which was a remote opportunity. Owing to my knowledge of Elixir, I have been invited as a guest for the “Elixir Mix” podcast to speak about LiveView and GraphQL (https://topenddevs.com/podcasts/elixir-mix/episodes/combining-graphql-and-liveview-with-abul-asar-sayyad-emx-182). I also speak at different meetups, one of which I am proud of is “Func Prog Sweden”. I spoke about building real-time systems using Phoenix Presence(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Je3EHQUcG4). I have also published a paper on creating Note note-taking app using LiveView and GenServe. All these credentials have constantly motivated me to scale up my skills and add more to the list. I am also an Active blogger and blog about Elixir, JS, Golang & other tricks and hacks. One of my blogs about Elixir and GenServer was published by the “Elixir Radar” newsletter(a famous newsletter in the Elixir community) along with Tom Nix’s (Creator of Elixir programming) blog. The blog got 5000 reads in just 2 weeks, which continues to encourage me.
I owe this learning to my undergraduate studies in Computer Science, where, although initially, I did not score well, gradually, by the third semester, I began focusing on practical learning. and eventually scored a distinction in the final year. In this span, I studied Web Engineering, Operating Systems, AI & ML, E-Commerce, and Software Engineering. These were the subjects I have studied in undergrad, and I also use (to some extent) in my day-to-day job. During this time, I worked on a few projects called Hockey and Tennis Live Data Stream using the Notification Service. This was my final year project. Earlier, I completed Open Source(OS) Contributions and simultaneously completed “Hackathon Future Vision’s Fest” by the Paxmania source challenge. The undergraduate course was indeed the perfect platform for me to obtain widespread learning.
From the MS course in Computer Science, I want to be proficient in using and understanding Algorithms and Distributed Systems. The program will enable me to be updated with the relevant and current computer science curriculum, allowing me to bridge the gap in the software engineering field. Soon after completing the MS course in the UK, I want to become a Software Architect and design scalable and highly maintainable software, making life easier. Later, in the long run, I see myself working as a Senior Project Manager, where I wish to make technical decisions in the software realm that will make the software more profitable for the clients I will work with.
I believe my goals need a sturdy platform that the UK and its esteemed universities will be able to provide. I find myself growing in this field, not only in the technical domain but also in the diversity sphere, where I could learn about different cultures. I am happy to have chosen this university for my academic course in Computer Science. The esteemed professors and the well-equipped computer science labs will augment my practical knowledge and will allow me to be dexterous in practical learning.
Other than exploring computers, I actively participated in logical and challenging games and was an active member of the Table Tennis community at my college. Not just volunteering to play Table Tennis, I participated in the annual college fest Table Tennis Competition. I also volunteered in SYA gaming competitions during fests, enhancing my interest in logical gaming.
From my current experience to my previously earned knowledge, I am looking forward to optimally utilizing my time here. It is through the MS course in Computer Science that I can contribute to the technical world and make applications that are simple to use.
