Dear Sir/Madam,

I hereby introduce myself as Shrishti Iyer, and I am currently residing in Bangalore, India. I am writing this letter with great enthusiasm to express my sincere intent to study in Germany and seek a study permit for the Sensor Systems Technology program at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA). Unfortunately, my previous visa application was rejected due to the following reason:

No evidence of engagement with the course, motivation not stated clearly, purpose of degree in Germany unclear.

Academic and Professional Background:

I am a highly motivated individual with a strong academic background and professional experience in the field of electronics and communication engineering, specifically focusing on VLSI Design. Having completed my post-graduation in VLSI Design in 2018, I am eager to further specialize in Sensor Systems Technology, a passion that has evolved through my exposure to implantable and wearable sensors.

My educational journey commenced with a robust foundation in mathematics and science during my school years. I pursued a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, followed by a post-graduation in VLSI Design. While my academic pursuits were commendable, my practical experiences have been equally enlightening. This includes a valuable internship at AMD where I focused on sensor verification, an experience that inspired me to delve deeper into the development process of sensors. This journey has steered my career trajectory towards becoming a proficient sensor developer.

My academic and professional journey has been a continuous exploration of sensor technology, from hands-on projects during my bachelor’s to in-depth coursework in Digital Signal Processing and CMOS Integrated Circuits. My internship at AMD and subsequent work at NASA equipped me with practical insights into sensor verification. The Sensor Systems Technology course at HKA perfectly complements my experience, allowing me to transition from verification to becoming a proficient sensor developer.

I had brief career explorations and underwent additional training to upskill during the gap years after my undergraduate program and internship. The decision to decline an opportunity at NASA was influenced by personal circumstances, including marriage and relocation. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, I remained proactive by pursuing language and coding courses to enhance my skills and eventually found a tailor-made course that aligns with my interests.

Why study Sensor Systems Technology at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA):

My decision to pursue the Sensor Systems Technology program at HKA is driven by the unique nature of the course and the university’s esteemed reputation. This program aligns perfectly with my interests in electro-mechanical sensors and offers a comprehensive curriculum covering analog signal processing, chemical and biosensors, physical sensors, and hybrid technology. HKA, being the sole university in India offering this course, stands out as an excellent choice due to its strong academic program, research focus, and diverse specializations.

Specifically, I am drawn to modules such as Chemical and Biosensors, Environmental Sensorics, and Microsystems. These modules align with my passion for wearable sensor technology and provide a platform to explore applications in healthcare, environmental monitoring, and microfabrication techniques.

Why Study in Germany?

I have opted to pursue my studies in Germany due to its distinguished educational landscape, offering a stark contrast to the academic environment in India. Germany’s emphasis on interdisciplinary programs is particularly appealing, fostering a holistic approach to education that extends beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries. This approach aligns seamlessly with the Sensor Systems Technology program at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA), offering a comprehensive and integrated curriculum. Germany’s renowned reputation for innovation in the field of sensor technology makes it an ideal destination for realizing my career aspirations. The opportunities for research, development, and industry collaboration are more abundant, providing an enriching platform to grow and excel in my chosen field. This comparative advantage in educational structure, student support, and professional prospects underscores why Germany is my preferred destination for higher education in sensor technology.

Why not India?

While India undoubtedly has its strengths, my decision to pursue higher education in Germany stems from the unique opportunities and advantages the German educational system offers in my chosen field of Sensor Systems Technology. I envision leveraging the world-class education and global exposure gained in Germany to contribute meaningfully to India’s technological landscape. By acquiring advanced skills and insights, I aim to bring innovative solutions to challenges prevalent in India, particularly in the realm of sensor technology. Through my choice of study destination, I aim to bridge the gap between global advancements and local requirements, fostering a positive impact on India’s technological progress.

Availability of funds

I have secured the required funds through personal savings and a blocked account with Coracle. Additionally, my spouse, a General Manager at Deloitte, Bangalore with a stable income, is committed to supporting my tuition fees and living expenses.

Tiebacks home

My husband, a highly qualified General Manager, provides strong financial support for my studies. My parents, residing in Tamilnadu, are supportive of my ambitions, ensuring financial security through my father’s retirement fund and properties. I am the only child of my parents, and my responsibilities towards them further strengthen my commitment to return to India after completing my studies.

Career Plans

In the short run, my aim is to secure a position as an R&D Engineer/Design Engineer, focusing on the design, verification, and fabrication of sensors, particularly for medical devices. I aspire to contribute to renowned companies such as GE Healthcare, Siemens Healthcare, and Analog Devices, gaining valuable industry experience. In the long term, I envision deepening my expertise in medical devices and electronics manufacturing. My goal is to actively participate in the development of startups, fostering an environment that exposes aspiring engineers in my home country to the field of bioelectronics. Simultaneously, I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in my primary area of interest, sensor system technology, further contributing to cutting-edge research and innovation in the field.

International Travel History

I have had the opportunity to travel to several international countries with my spouse, including the Maldives, Thailand, and Indonesia. However, this will be my first time visiting a European country.

Conclusion

My deep passion for sensor technology, coupled with my academic and professional experiences, has led me to pursue the Sensor Systems Technology program at HKA. I am confident that this program will provide me with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve my short-term and long-term career goals. My commitment to returning to India is unwavering, and I am eager to apply the valuable learnings from Germany to contribute to the advancement of sensor technology in my home country.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the academic and cultural exchange in Germany.
